In Cuba, there are three possibility to travel inside the country
- Transportation by bus Viazul which go to the main tourist cities.You travel in modern buses with air-conditioned. It's payable only in dollars, even for the Cubans. It is economic but not very flexible.
- Rent a car is a good solution if you have an important budget.
- The bicycle is a good alternative to visit the country. In Havana, which is a huge city, it makes it possible to move without having to take taxi. It's easy to make a small tour in the country with the enormous advantage of quasi non-existent motor vehicle traffic. Cuba should be the only country in the world where you can take the highway by bicycle! It is a small country, the relief is flat and the roads are good enough. Furthermore, you can take your bike in Viazul buses without additional charge. In Cuba, the wind comes from the East and taking the bus with its bicycle is interesting to avoid pedal wind of face.
During my third trip in Cuba, I did a round in the West part and in the Juventus island with my bicycle. 1050 kms in 2 weeks :
La Habana -> Matanzas -> Batabano -> Isla de la Juventud -> Soroa -> Pinar del Rio -> Puerto Esperanza -> Vinales and back by bus to La Habana.
In my fourth trip, I've been from Santiago de Cuba to La Habana by Bicycle in 15 stages, 20 days and 1450 kms.
Santiago -> La Mula (Campismo) -> Pilon -> Manzanillo -> LasTunas -> Camagüay -> Ciego deAvila -> Cayo coco -> Moron-> Sancti Spiritus -> Trinidad-> Cienfuegos -> Colon -> Varadero -> Matanzas -> LaHabana.
